The 2001 Census @ school survey focused on using a basic census with school children. Two types of questionnaires were designed: Gr. 3 – 7 and Gr. 8 – 12. The questionnaires include three sections: learners’ personal information, their household information, and information on the schools as follows:

1. Section 1 – Personal Information
1. Demographic variables (e.g. sex, date of birth, languages spoken)
2. Learner measurements (height, length of feet and arm span)
3. Sports played
4. Opinions (e.g. pollution, conserving resources)

1. Section 2 – Household Information
1. Availability of basic amenities in the household (e.g. TV, radio, telephone)
2. Type of dwelling
3. Number of people in the household

1. Section 3 – School Information
1. Favourite subjects at school
2. Mode of transport to school
3. Time taken to get to school
4. Distance to the school
