Methodology Reports

In order to assist users of Census '96 information, Stats SA has produced a series of Methodological Reports. These documents are designed to provide background information to the Census as a whole, as well as give details of specific terms and concepts used in it.

2. Calculating the Undercount in Census '96:  a description of how Stats SA measured undercount in the census by means of a post-enumeration survey (PES) and how it used this information to weight the final data.
3. Fertility and morbidity trends in South Africa: This paper was prepared by Dr Eric Udjo, Director of Thematic Demographic Analysis at Statistics South Africa, as part of an exercise evaluating the quality of data gathered in the 1996 population census. While the paper was researched and prepared at the request of Statistics South Africa, the findings and arguments expressed are those of the author, and do not represent the official view of Statistics South Africa.
